“THE WINTER IN TIBET - LHASA”: JOKHANG (PART 1)

I wrote a lot about Jokhang, the heart of Lhasa, the heart of Tibet. We follow other people going around the monastery, and wait for to go into there. This is the quintescence treasure of Tibet, both physical and spiritual

When buying tickets and went inside, we of Tibet people coming from far. These people were different from those who were going round the monastery days and nights. While wearing full traditional costumes, they seem to be rich, a little more luxurious. These traditional clothes were clean and new. The women wear a lot of jewelry on the head, on the neck: the big blue stone string, the sparkling bracelet chain. There are more and more more people in the monastery, but not the messy tourists, they are groups of people going to church which add more vitality to the space.

The walls of the Jokhang was full of mural paintings. But these are paintings which were restored, the original was devastated in ignorance of an generation provoked in the 1960s.

From here, no photograph is permitted. It can be seen by the camera above. In the middle is the 5th Dalai Lama statue (I have to zoom from outside). Besides 3 huge statues of Padmasambhava, Tsongkhapa, and the Buddha.

Entering the main hall of the Jokhang, at first I really did not have too much emotion. Perhaps because of the morning I saw many treasures inside Potala Okay, so the statue in the middle of electricity was not impressed. Around the main hall there are many new small shrines where preserved the most sacred treasures, but the place was surrounded by a huge grille. One could stand outside looking inside, but can not get inside because that the grille was too heavy and locked four sides.

At that time, the other Tibet group had just returned from praying in a small room, where laid a very sacred statue of Guanyin. Suddenly I heard a crash: a lama unlocked the door and let all people inside.

Quiet for a while, I looked back at June to ask: You coming in? Then without saying anything, both of us rushed to the group of people. We are so close to the statues, listening to the murmured Tibet prayers pray,… I closed my eyes and felt the atmosphere full of sacredness.

There were some Tibet people out their phone and the statue. Finally I did not take any pictures in that small room.
After that, all people moved out to visit the church at the end of the mail hall, the most sacred place of the Jokhang, Tibet’s heart of hearts …

The grille is pulled up, along with the other people, June and I reached the end of the temple, the most sacred place of the Jokhang, where laid the statue defending the Tibet realm.

On the Internet there are also photographs of this statue, and indeed many people in Jokhang also admire the statue through the I could not touch the statues because of too many worship stuffs around. In the front, there are water bowls, I took a little into the small bottle which I carry. And then a lama was pouring the perfume on the statue, and around, the Tibet read aloud the worship texts.

Now, some people around continued shooting by phone. Could not hold back anymore, I also took my camera out of the box and click continuously!
